Glass Ceramics are
semi crystallized bodies that are obtained
from controlled crystallization of glasses.
The crystallized phase type and final
properties can be controlled by initial
glass chemical composition, heat treatment
schedule and suitable producing method. The
notable characterizations of these materials
are dependent of numerous factors such as
original glass composition, Nuclei type and
heat treatment schedule.
Concept of controlled
crystallization of glass is according to
first phase segregation of base glass as
fine crystals which growth rate and final
grain size are parameter of heat treatment
schedule.
If the great deals of
nuclei have been dispersed uniformly in the
volume of glass, with increasing of
temperature, they have been grew up. At last
when the attained crystals exceeds to 50
percent volume of primitive glass sample,
the considerable glass ceramic has been
obtained.
