Abstract
This research is mainly about the use of
pigments in art glass. Flat plates of glass
are used as raw material in art glass
especially in multi layer formed by the
fusion process.
In this technique the most important factor
is the compatibility of glass which has been
examined here by producing colorful glasses
with different shapes so that they fit each
other with no defects. Various stain
formulations such as; metal oxides and their
salts, complex stain compounds, non oxide
pigments and metal colloids are
investigated. From these groups some of the
ionic pigments which are readily available
and been used in ancient art glass with
different percentages have been applied and
their chromatic properties have been
reviewed.
The tables are briefly shown the
investigation method. Mainly it is needed to
reach colorful glass that could join
together in a fusion process and produce
fully stable pieces with no defects. Some
simple art glass, which has been produced by
flat glass and their procedures are
presented.
Key words:
Art glass, glass fusion, glass defects,
pigments in glass, Ionogenic pigments
