CERAMITEC 2006 Report

Despite the concentration of events in the sector this year, CERAMITEC 2006 has again demonstrated its position as the leading international trade fair for the industry. The 10th International Trade Fair for Machinery, Equipment, Plant, Processes and Raw Materials for CERAMICS and POWDER METALLURGY drew to a close in Munich. The event attracted around 22,000 trade

visitors from 106 countries - almost as many visitors as at CERAMITEC 2003, although CERAMITEC 2006 had been shortened by one day. More than 50 per cent of these trade visitors came from abroad. "No other fair is as international as CERAMITEC. No other event has such a balanced structure in its range. On four days of exhibition, CERAMITEC brings the global ceramics industry together in one place", said Eugen Egetenmeir, member of the managing board of Messe München.
According to the results of the survey by TNS Infratest, CERAMITEC's visitors included a high proportion of decision-makers (91 percent), with 66 per cent of these in managerial positions. Over 70 per cent of the exhibitors assessed the frequency of visitors to their stands as "good to excellent", and 86 per cent thought likewise about the internationality of the customers.

The important international ceramics markets were in attendance in Munich - as was clearly shown by the visitor figures for the individual countries. Apart from Germany, the most trade visitors came from Italy followed by France, Turkey, Austria, Spain, the Czech Republic, Great Britain, Poland, Iran and Russia. There was great interest on the part of Asia too: for the first time, Koreans attended the fair and the number of Japanese increased many times over. "This trade fair continues to be of great international importance; over 50 per cent of the customers come from outside Europe, they are mainly decision-makers. Our most important objectives were to acquire new applications and orders, and we succeeded in that", says Karl A. P. Eping, director of LAEIS GmbH from Luxembourg. The Japanese exhibitor Masayasu Izawa

from Izawa Pigment thinks the same: "CERAMITEC is definitely an international meeting point for the sector. One of our objectives is to get more customers in Europe and that's why we take advantage of CERAMITEC."

At CERAMITEC 2006, 613 exhibitors from 42 countries presented their products and services ranging from coarse and fine ceramics and raw materials production right down to the refractory industry and powder metallurgy. After Germany, Italy was the biggest exhibiting country internationally. The percentage from Asia and the Middle East increased as did the demand from Central and Eastern Europe. The market leaders made use of CERAMITEC to demonstrate the latest machinery, plant and processes. "CERAMITEC gave us to opportunity to introduce our new technologies", states Daniel Burak Selamet, president of UNIMAK Machinery, Turkey.

Trade visitors gave a positive assessment of the synergies produced in connection with AUTOMATICA, which took place at the same time. Here they found suppliers in the related areas of packaging and materials-handling technology, vacuum technology and test and measuring systems. Michael Zins, director of TASK, Germany, says: "In combination with AUTOMATICA, a great many talks were held about specific components from technical ceramics. Obviously there was a good transfer of visitors between the two fairs."

There was a positive response to the new CERAMITEC FORUM, which offered a platform for developments in the ceramics industry. "As the forum is integrated into the halls and has an open structure, the events are brought closer to the other activities at the fair. Expanding markets like India can thus introduce themselves to an international public", says Rajesh Nath, director of the Indian representative office of the Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau e.V. (VDMA).

Main Press Conference for CERAMITEC 2006
Eugen Egetenmeir, Member of the Management Board of Messe München stated,
“CERAMITEC is the most successful trade forum for all areas of the international ceramic and powder-metallurgy industry. It is both a trend barometer and an innovations show, and as such a firm date in the diaries of industry professionals.
CERAMITEC is rightly regarded as the leading international trade fair in the sector. CERAMITEC is an ideal networking platform, a place to consolidate existing business contacts and forge new ones. In the coming days the latest innovations and developments in the sector will be presented here, and the latest trends discussed.

CERAMITEC has the greatest variety of products of all ceramics and powdermetallurgy trade fairs and it has proportionally the broadest international participation.
As an international business platform CERAMITEC covers the entire bandwidth of the ceramics industry. On show here is machinery and plant for the various segments of the industry – for example, for fine ceramics and the heavy-clay industry, refractories, technical ceramics and powder metallurgy – and raw materials and additives.
This year 613 exhibitors from 42 countries will be presenting their products in Munich. The proportion of exhibitors from Asia and the Middle East has risen once again. National pavilions have been booked by China, Spain, the United Kingdom and the US. Demand from central and eastern Europe is also very high. European firms traditionally turn out in force for this event, Italy sending the strongest contingent. After Germany, the top ten exhibiting countries at CERAMITEC 2006 are, Italy, United Kingdom, France, Spain, China, United States, Netherlands, Turkey and the Czech Republic.

At CERAMITEC 2006 ceramics expertise will be on show from a total of 42 countries.

New this year at CERAMITEC in Munich are Bosnia-Herzegovina, Finland, Iran, Iraq, Korea and Peru.
The concept behind the fair is carefully planned and covers a very broad range. Visitors from Germany and all over the world appreciate this quality. In 2003 over 24,000 trade visitors from 106 countries made the journey to Munich. 15,660 of them were from abroad, which is equivalent to an international proportion of 65 percent.
At CERAMITEC 2006 we are welcoming a string of official delegations. From Brazil there will mainly be representatives from the heavy-clay industry (bricks, roofing tiles manufacturers). High-ranking delegations are also coming from Iraq and Russia, as well as groups of visitors from the Czech Republic, India, Iran and Poland.

CERAMITEC 2006 will be taking up 50,000 square metres of exhibition space in four halls. It is being held in parallel with AUTOMATICA 2006 (the 2nd International Trade Fair for Automation – Assembly – Robotics – Vision). The benefits to exhibitors and trade visitors at CERAMITEC are clear: CERAMITEC exhibitors, for example, will be able to use Automatica as a contacts forum for finding partners in packaging, conveying and vacuum technology and suppliers of measurement and test systems.
Creating synergies at national and international level is therefore an easy job at a broad-ranging international event like CERAMITEC. Trade visitors, and also trade journalists, benefit from the extended range – participants in either event are entitled to attend both fairs, with just a

single registration. This bonus enhances the attractiveness of CERAMITEC 2006 still further.
As the organisers of CERAMITEC we strive to continuously expand the trade-fair programme. In 2006 there will be the first CERAMITEC FORUM, held to accompany the fair, and located right in the midst of the halls. Here at this forum experts from the ceramics industry will be giving lectures and taking part in panel discussions on topical themes. A strong practical emphasis is very important in planning these events, as a glance at the programme will reveal.

The programme for this afternoon, for example, focuses on Italy, in particular the manufacture of machinery for the heavy-clay industry. Tomorrow, Wednesday, we take a look at the opportunities

on the ceramics market of India. On Thursday the spotlight is on the technology and innovations of the Spanish ceramics market. The highlight on the last day of the fair is a panel discussion on ‘The ceramics markets of Europe – Growth markets of central and eastern Europe’. Speakers from leading companies and organisations will be talking about the market opportunities that are opening up for both sides. Following on from the panel discussion is a ‘Europe Get-Together’, a chance for important players in east-west and west-east business to forge new contacts. Exhibitors, trade associations, media partners and trade publishers will also be using this attractive platform to present their products, services and current projects.”

On balance, CERAMITEC is an excellent trade fair for manufacturers of structural ceramic components."
