Iranian Economy
and Tragedy of Wastes
Based
on the statistical studies in various
industrial, agricultural, and mineral
fields, the production and consumption ratio
of wastes does not match the standards in
our country; so, it had formed a catastrophe
in many fields.
One of the parliament representatives
announced that the fuel consumption of the
cars in Iran is twice as much as the global
rate; and so, he emphasizes to use the
global standards while car production. He
also believes our gas-burner vehicles have
not been produced based on a good standard;
and they have a high fuel consumption rate.
Meanwhile, the related efficiency of many of
our power plants is less than 15 percent,
and this percentage reaches 35 to 40 percent
for our new power plants. As the head of
energy commission in parliament, he states
further that the efficiency average of our
power plants is between 32 and 33 percent;
and the 70 % of the remaining energy is
lost, causing pollution. In addition, 20% of
the produced electricity in power stations
is wasted during transmission to the
consumption centers. He continues saying
while the sum of foreign exchange income and
financial income is about 70 billion
dollars, the rate of energy loss and energy
wastes amounts 45 billion dollars; and this
has caused the country’s economic status a
big problem.
It should be taken into consideration that
gas consumption and smuggled petrol amount
were run to 75 billion liter per day in
1385; and this expense was increased to 90
percent in special days of the year. It is
said that the imported petrol equals to the
petrol which is smuggled over the country’s
borders abroad.
The head of fruit and vegetable exporters’
union states: “25% to 30% of our produced
fruits are thrown away as wastes. This is
bitter statistical news, as a result of
which, a high pressure is opposed on the
cost price of fruits and vegetables. And we
will not achieve a reasonable exports growth
if the wastes expenses can not be decreased.
When we find out that Iran suffers from
water shortage, we face the terrible view of
the wastes tragedy. The damages of fruits
and other agricultural products cause both
loss of human force, and loss of water. On
other hand, statistics shows 40% of water
sources are wasted now in agriculture.
Iranian agricultural section uses water for
more than 90% while having the least
efficiency unfortunately. And according to
statistics a low efficiency is understood in
different fields of agriculture, industry,
mineral.
As statistics shows, our farming products
amounts about 13 to 14 tons per hectare;
however, the standard rate for such a
production is 26 to 30 tons per hectare
(twice as much) in developed countries that
use the scientific principles. The Water
continues to waste in a situation that a
number of our countrymen suffer from lack of
drinkable water in many provinces.
The managing director of water and rural
sewerage of Tehran province announced:” The
villages located in Tehran enjoy 45/1% of
the healthy drinkable water.”
A published research based statistics drawn
by higher educational center of Grain
Industry from Comprehensive Scientific
Employment University says that the
government pays 22 thousand billion Rials
subsidy (2.340.000.000$) for the process of
wheat production; given 30 % wastes, in
fact, 660 billion Tomans (702.000.000$) of
this amount is thrown off uselessly.
Meanwhile, manifested on the statistics of
the budget rule for 1385 by the country’s
Planning and Management Administration, one
trillion ninety two and seventy eight
million rials(201.000.000$) was paid for
flour. Of course, some experts believe that
the major reason of the problems, which
directly affects the bread quality, is the
subsidized flour distribution. The so-called
subsidy was about twenty five thousand and
eighty seven billion Rials (2.752.000.000$),
in the budget of 1385, which has been
increased about 600 billion Tomans
(638.000.000$), that equals 31%, more than
the amount in 1384.
Referring to the country’s 30% bread wastes
and the point that our wheat consumption per
capita is at least twice as much as the
amount found in other countries, the
ex-director general of Trade affairs office
in Planning and Management Administration
added: “The major cause of such problems in
Iran is related to efforts to have a
continuously unreal low price of flour.”
According to the relevant statistics
released in recent years, a high subsidy has
been allocated to the wheat and flour.
An expert of House and Urban Construction
says: “The efficient lifetime of
constructions in Iran is estimated less than
both the ones in other countries and the
ones within current global standards. He
counted some of the main reasons of the
decrease in lifetime of buildings in Iran as
the instability of constructional rules, the
application of traditional methods and lack
of comprehensive constructional policies.
Unfortunately, Wastes Tragedy is evident in
all aspects of our unhealthy economy.
A member of Tehran University Scientific
Mission says: “Due not to have a correct
strategy for its development, Iran has gone
under loss of its genius minds which equals
to the sum of its oil income for 100 years.
He also states:”Recently one million of
almost 30 year old educated Iranian people
have immigrated. Iran. Having such a volume
of capitals escape, Iran has sustained a
loss of its inefficient economic system.
Not having entered to the scientific
centered economy, Iran has been inattentive
to value human being and human resources as
the most important factor of success in
countries. So, it faces the impolitic
immigration and its genius people’s escape.
Certainly in order to have a healthy economy
and to avoid more damages, we need to face
the above-discussed issues by means of
research and science.
We hope that our government and our people
will take more substantial steps decisively
to avoid further damages to the corporal and
the spiritual capitals of our country on
this very new year.
With a deep hope for such a day,
