Germany is an internationally active
group of companies focusing on
mining, processing, and refining of
the mineral raw materials kaolin,
feldspar, and quartz sand.
Europe's second largest kaolin
company (sales volume), which
primarily supplies the paper,
ceramics, glass, and construction
industries, has over 100 years of
experience and technical expertise.
Raw material mining for the next
decades
The basis for the high quality of
AKW's raw materials is the
mineralogical individuality of the
various deposits, which allows the
processing and refining of products
with very specific properties. In
the years 1996 to 2004,
approximately 100 million euros have
been invested in modernising
production processes, optimising
workflows, and extensive
reconstruction measures. Currently,
Amberger Kaolinwerke are preparing
another investment programme,
planned up to the year 2015, of
another approx. 60 million euros.
Tableware
The kaolin from the AKW Group for
use in hard porcelain, vitreous
china, bone china, etc. comes from
the Kemmlitzer works. With its low
iron and titanium values, the
quality is distinguished by a very
white fired colour and a low alkali
content.
Established for many decades, the
palette of fine ceramic kaolins
MEKA, BZ, and OKA has been expanded
in recent years by the ARCANO
series. This includes kaolin types
with special, improved properties
such as rheology, plasticity, shard
production, etc., which are most
suitable for the dominant production
technologies such as isostatic
moulding and pressure casting.
